Wanted: Internet Service Provider
I have been usually content with the services I have been
getting for my mobile phone service providers and such and
never actually needed to complain of anything. Thus I have
always been very lazy on competing prices, switching the
provider from one to another frequently.
I know people who have been changing providers constantly due
to special offers and such, and it used to be very annoying to
get messages in spirit of 'my number has changed...'
constantly.
I was more or less married to a long-time family employer
Elisa, which (on different
company names) was the employer of both of my parents (they
were externalized to Flextronics) and me and my
brother have both been working several summers in this
telephone company. My internet comes from them, my mobile -
before I got my work phone - was from them and so on.
About a year ago I saw an advertisement of an ISP that sells an ADSL
broadband connection with 8M/1M (best effort). What made this
more special was that they were offering digital TV channels
via this broadband connection. After reading several reviews,
Maxinetti might be my
choice.
TV being sent over broadband will of course affect the
bandwidth. I still was reading content and happy reviews, which
were saying that from that 8 Mbit/s of best effort rate there
was still at least 256 kbit/s left for internet connection
while watching TV. I am content with this.
My spouse is Portuguese and she is yearning for more
interesting TV channels than the national Finnish channels are.
The place we live in is in peripheria (read: 10 km away from
the center of Helsinki) and the closest cable is annoyingly
about 500 m away. My flat is in an old apartment building,
which doesn't have enough of money to get the cables connected.
Maxinetti offers also flexibility in channels. For 10 e a month
we will be getting eg.
- Cartoon Network (hangover mornings aren't hangover mournings anymore)
- a bunch of Discovery channels
- TCM Movie channel (not a clue of this one yet...)
So, one by one I am detaching myself from ex-employer of my
family. I hope I will be satisfied with the quality of service
as well.
